Mia garden systems are manufactured from 6063 aluminium alloy, the same grade used in architectural aluminium, and structural engineering components. It offers an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, is fully corrosion-resistant, and will not rot, warp, crack, or degrade over time.

Yes. Aluminium is an inert metal. It doesn't react with soil, compost, or plant roots, which is why it's used widely in gardening, food storage, and cookware.

The woodgrain finish on Mia beds is VOC-free and independently tested by Eurofins to the standard used for LEED, BREEAM, and WELL-certified buildings.

Yes. The woodgrain finish is sublimated into the aluminium surface, which means it can’t peel or crack in harsh weather. Think of it like a tattoo. It's permanent. The finish is also UV-resistant and has been tested in high UV climates.

No. Aluminium does not rust. When exposed to oxygen, aluminium forms a thin, stable oxide layer that acts as a natural barrier against corrosion. This process is self-healing.

Standard Mia beds are 300mm (30cm) and 150mm (15cm) deep. Perfect for growing most vegetables, herbs, and salad crops. A deeper profile option is in development.

The aluminium profiles are guaranteed against corrosion and structural failure that renders them unusable for 30 years from the date of purchase. Fixings and surface finishes are excluded from guarantee terms, though our sublimated wood-effect finish is engineered for long-term outdoor durability and is highly stable under UV.

Well beyond the 30-year guarantee period. The lifespan for the type of aluminium we use can be measured in decades – when used in building exteriors it lasts 50+ years.

The box isn't waste, it's the foundation. Your Mia purchase arrives in a flat cardboard box sized to serve as the base of your bed. Once assembled, peel off any tape or labels and lay the box flat underneath your bed before filling with soil. The cardboard will naturally suppress any weeds and grasses growing underneath, breaking down over 6–12 months and feeding the soil below.

Mia is built with sustainability at its core. Designed to last well beyond the 30- year guarantee, investing in a Mia bed means decades of growing your own food – reducing food packaging waste, transportation costs and excess energy used when you buy imported products. And the most sustainable product is one you never have to replace. Made from at least 50% post-consumer recycled aluminium, aluminium is also infinitely recyclable at end of use.

Quite a lot. Mia beds are 300mm deep, which suits the vast majority of vegetables, herbs, and salad crops perfectly such as kale, lettuce, spinach, courgettes, beetroot, carrots, onions, garlic, beans, peas, strawberries, and most herbs.

For deeper-rooting crops like tomatoes and cucumbers, 300mm is workable provided your bed is sitting on open garden soil rather than a hard surface. Roots will naturally push down through the base as the plant establishes. Bush (determinate) tomato varieties tend to perform better than tall vining types at this depth.

As a general rule: if it grows in an Irish garden, it grows in a Mia bed.

Spring (March–May)
Lettuce, spinach, radishes, spring onions, peas, broad beans, kale, chard, parsley, chives. Start tomatoes and courgettes indoors in March/April for planting out later.

Early Summer (June–July)
The best time to hit the ground running. Plant out tomatoes, courgettes, cucumbers, French beans, basil, and salad crops. Successional sow lettuce and radishes every few weeks to keep harvests coming. Strawberries planted in June will establish well for next year.

Late Summer (August–September)
Kale, winter salads, spinach, spring onions, and garlic (from late September). A great time to get a second flush of salad going before the cold sets in.

Autumn/Winter (October–February)
Overwintering onions and garlic, hardy salad leaves under fleece, and kale will all push through. A Mia bed's aluminium construction means no rotting. It earns its keep all year.

If you're new to growing, start with crops that are forgiving, fast, and satisfying. These all perform brilliantly in a Mia bed with minimal fuss:

Easiest wins are lettuce, radishes, and spring onions are hard to kill, grow quickly, and give you something to harvest within weeks of planting. Great for building confidence.

One step up is Kale, chard, spinach, and peas are nearly as easy and far more productive over a longer season. Kale in particular is almost indestructible in Irish conditions.

First-time favourites include courgettes and French beans reward beginners generously as both grow fast, produce heavily, and don't need much attention beyond watering.

Tomatoes are worth attempting early. They get a reputation for being tricky but bush varieties like Tumbling Tom or Gardener's Delight are reliable in a sheltered spot and deeply satisfying to harvest.

One tip: start with two or three crops rather than ten. You'll learn faster, waste less, and enjoy it more.
